William Winthrop | ||||||||||||||
Mr. Winthrop enlisted as Private in Company A, 28th NY on April 22, 1861 at the age of 24 and mustered in service with the regiment on May 22, 1861. He was promoted to Corporal in July 1861 and Sergeatnt in Feb 1862. | ||||||||||||||
With Company A, he participated in the battles of Winchester, Cedar Mountain, Antietam and Chancellorsville before being mustered out with the regiment on June 2, 1863. | ||||||||||||||
He is buried at Cold Springs Cemetery in Lockport, Niagara County, NY. His marker stone read as follows: | ||||||||||||||

Within the cemetery, they are buried in Lot E, Section 015 close to Maple Ave. As can be seen from the picture below, he has a large bush growing right in front of his grave which may explain why I was unable to find him on my summer visits to this cemetery. | ||||||||||||||
