Stephen Wakeman | ||||||||||||||
On April 30th, 1861, at the age of 20, Stephen Wakeman enlisted as a Private in Company H, 28th NY. He was wounded in action during the Battle of Cedar Mountain on August 9th, 1862. He then mustered out with the regiment on June 2nd, 1863. | ||||||||||||||
He is buried at Rock Hill Cemetery in the town of Rock Hill, Sullivan County, NY along with his wife. | ||||||||||||||
The inscription on the marker stone reads: | ||||||||||||||
STEPHEN WAKEMAN Born Oct. 1, 1841 ----- PERNINA C. His Wife Born June 25, 1843 Died Dec. 29, 1894 | ||||||||||||||
The small cemetery, one block in from the main road, is nicely kept. The Wakeman marker is just to the left of the road that goes in to the cemetery, about three rows in. | ||||||||||||||
