Mr. Long enlisted as First Sergeant in Company A, 28th NY on April 22, 1861 and mustered in service with the regiment on May 22, 1861. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on January 30, 1862 and 1st Lieutenant of Company C on July 21, 1862. | ||||||||||||||
Less than a month later, he was captured at the Battle of Cedar Mountain, on August 9, 1862. He was subsequently paroled at Aikens Landing, Va., September 24, 1862 and mustered out with the regiment on June 2, 1863. | ||||||||||||||
He is buried at Cold Springs Cemetery in Lockport, Niagara County, NY along with his parents and possibly the family of one of his siblings. His marker stone reads as follows: | ||||||||||||||
