Leroy Kenyon

On May 6th, 1861, Leroy Kenyon enlisted as a Private in Company D, 28th NY. He was 20 years old. He was wounded in action at Cedar Mountain on August 9th, 1862. His wounds were such that he was discharged for disability at Port Monroe, Va., on November 17th 1862.

He died less than six years later, on September 12th, 1868 and is buried at Somerset Cemetery, Somerset, Niagara County, NY.

His headstone reads as follows:

LEROY KENYON Died Sept 12, 1868 27 yrs 3m 17 d

Two smaller headstones are also located there, which are two sons, both of who died less than two years old:

MILO Son of Leroy & Euretta Kenyon Died Jan 9 1867 Aged 1 yr 7m 16d ----- A bud of promise plucked From earth to bloom in heaven

ORREN Son of Leroy & Euretta Kenyon Born Feb 23, 1868 Died Jan 16 1869 ----- A bud of promise plucked From earth to bloom in heaven

It is quite a small cemetery and the family plot is located about 10 meters in from the road.
