Nathaniel Jones enlisted as Private in Company G, 28th New York in may 1861 and was discharged for disability three months later, on July 14th 1861, at Washington, DC.

He is buried in Mount Albion cemetery in Albion, Orleans County, NY.

His marker reads:

N. R. Jones Co. G 28th N.Y. Inf

The cemetery has a small Civil War section to the west of the cemetery. Entering the cemetery from Rt31, through the gate nearest to Albion, the Civil War monument is almost immediately on the left side of the road.
