At the age of 19, Francis Haner enlisted as a Private in Company C, 28th NY, on April 25th, 1861. Following Cedar Mountain, he served on detached duty as a regimental teamster from September 1862 through to April 1863. He mustered out with the regiment on June 2nd, 1863.
Mr. Haner is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in the town of Wilson, Niagara County, NY. With his is buried his wife and a number of other relatives.
His headstone reads as follows:

His wife’s headstone inscription is as follows:

A small headstone is placed next to Francis and Sarah. However, it is unreadable and may be a child.
Also, a family stone is there; but, for some reason, I failed to take any photos of it. However, the inscription is as follows:

Within the cemetery, the Haner family plot is about two thirds of the way to the back of the cemetery, to the left of the main road leading into the cemetery.
