Daniel Holmes Davis

Born on April 14th 1839, Daniel Holmes Davis enlisted in Company K, 28th NY, as a Private on 26th April 1861 and mustered into service on May 22nd, 1861 at age 22.
He died of disease on the 14th of May, 1862 while at Strasburg, Va. age 23.
He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Wilson, Niagara County, NY along with what appears to be his grandparents, parents and a number of siblings. However, he appears to be buried with a marker stone which could indicate that his last name is hyphenated as Holmes-Davis, rather than Holmes being his middle name.
His marker stone reads as follows:
HOLMES
Eliza Davis
1838 – 1859
Daniel H
1839 - 1862
The other marker stones read as follows:
In Memory Of
CHRISTINE TURNER

-----
CHARLES
Son of Henry and Christine
DAVIS
Sarah A.
1812 – 1864
Samuel
1831 – 1862

Greenwood Cemetery is a very well maintained, but sprawling cemetery which backs up to a swampy area. The Holmes plot is right at the very back of the cemetery.
