Washington L Hicks enlisted as Private in Company E and was promoted to Sergeant. He was also the Regimental Clerk. He was captured at Chancellorsville and hid the company payroll throughout his imprisonment to be returned upon his parole. | ||||||||||||||
Mr. Hicks had two wives. Both of which are buried with him at West Avenue Cemetery in Canandaigua, Ontario County, NY.In the cemetery he is buried in the East 2 section - To the right (east) of the central track between the first and second side roads. | ||||||||||||||

A book with the diary of Washington Hicks was published suggesting that Hicks only ever had one wife, however his obituary was submitted in 1885, 11 years after the death of Mary Travis by Ruhama Travis Hicks who noted herself as the wife of, and executor of the estate of, Washington Hicks. The two wives of Mr. Hicks, Ruhama and Mary, may have been cousins. | ||||||||||||||
