Edwin Franklin Brown

Colonel Edwin Franklin Brown is buried at Boxwood Cemetery in Medina. He enlisted with the 28th NY as Lt-Colonel, lost his right arm and was taken prisoner at the Battle of Cedar Mountain on August 9th 1862. He was paroled and returned to the regiment. Upon his return he was promoted to Full Colonel of the regiment and led the regiment through to being mustered out in 1863.
Prior to his death in 1903, he requested that the regimental colors, which had been captured at Cedar Mountain, be draped over his casket at his funeral. It was nearly the last time that the remaining veterans of the 28th saw the flag as it was sent to Albany for safekeeping shortly afterwards.
Colonel Brown is buried on the front of the hill, overlooking the Veterans section (mostly WWII) of the cemetery. With him is buried his wife, Elizabeth, and a memorial to their son, Will. Also on the same stone are Joseph, Eliza & Florence Davis and James & Caroline Foley. The relationship between these three families is unknown. Based on the dates, Eliza could have been Edwin Brown's sister and Caroline could have been his daughter.
