Elliot W Cook

Elliot Wilkinson Cook was commissioned into the 28th New York as Captain of Company A in May 1861. He served in that capacity through to November 1862 when, as part of the regiments reorganization after the Battle of Cedar Mountain, he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel.

He was mustered out with the regiment on June 3rd 1863. He is buried at Cold Springs Cemetery in Lockport, Niagara County, NY along with his wife, Malvina, and his brother.

Within the cemetery, entering from the Cold Springs Road entrance, take the first road to the right and follow up to the top of the hill. There is an old maintenance building built into the hillside on the right and they are buried a short distance past that building, to the left of the track.

The stone reads:

ELLIOT WILKINSON COOK Lt. Col. of 28th Regt. NYS Vol. in the Civil War Born in Cumberland, Rhode Island, June 13, 1818 Died at Riverside, California, Jan 13, 1877 ----- MALVINA LOUISA COOK His Wife Born in Rochester, NY Died in Lockport, NY, May 11, 1894

His brother is on the opposite side of the same stone and he too was a Civil War veteran, however, the transcription of his details was not taken at the time of the visit.
